About John Evaldson MD

Overcome bigger and more complex obstacles in life through John Evaldson MD in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I am a board-certified psychiatrist for children, adolescents, and adults. Currently, I am doing my private practice in Santa Fe which includes the following services:

• Diagnostic Evaluations and Consultations
• Individual and Family Treatments
• Talk Therapies and Medication Treatments

Background and Training
I trained for six years in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center after graduating in the top quarter of my class in 1983 at the University of Michigan School of Medicine. In Santa Fe I served as the chief of adolescent psychiatry services at St. Vincent Hospital and then became the chief of psychiatry services between 1989 to 1995. I have been in a solo office practice since that time.

This background has given me a wide range and depth of experience. I have integrated multiple approaches into a pragmatic treatment model including developmental, psychological and psychoanalytic, behavioral, and biological. I have a long held affinity for evolutionary biology as a model for psychiatry. I host an evolutionary biology,  brain, and behavior book club.

Expertise
After thirty years, I gained experiences with the full range of problems such as mood, anxiety, trauma, and behavior disorders. I listen carefully. I like my work and helping people. I have good boundaries. I am a husband and father, and have a life away from work as well. I am involved in my professional organizations, give talks, have coached youth sports, and mountain bike, a lot.
